Of Olivedale


Lancaster - Elvin D. Shook, 94 of Lancaster, Ohio passed into the arms of his Lord on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2020 at Arbors of Carroll Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with the love of his life, Marilyn at his side. 


Elvin graduated from Asheville High School with the class of 1944. He was a World War II veteran serving in the US Army. He retired from Anchor Hocking after 36 years as a shipping supervisor. Elvin also retired from the Lancaster City School system after many years as a school bus driver. After retirement he and Marilyn moved to Florida where they enjoyed many years of fun in the sun. Dad loved to camp and building a campfire was one of the many pleasures. He and Mom traveled from Maine to California and Oregon to Florida and everywhere in between. He especially loved to ocean cruise. 


Elvin was a lifetime member of the Lancaster American Legion Post #11 where he once served as post historian. He was a member the Olivedale Senior Citizens Center and the Military Veterans of Olivedale. Until his health began to fail, he faithfully attended Faith Memorial Church. Our Dad is survived by his wife of nearly 74 years, Marilyn Louise (Miller) Shook; a son Michael (Vicki) Shook of Lancaster, daughters Victoria (Mike) Noice of Southport, North Carolina and Kimberly Shook and fiancй Ed Spencer of Lancaster; grandchildren Jodi (Charles) Flanigan of Pickerington, Ohio, Chad (Mary) Shook of Lancaster, Ohio, Wesley (Angela) Noice of Stuttgart, Germany, Kelly (Daniel) Henrikson of Leland, North Carolina, Jeremy (Samantha) Rankin of Kenmore, Washington, Lauriel (Shane) Hayes of Columbus, Ohio, eight great grandchildren, brother-in-law Kenneth Miller of Alta Loma, California and many nieces and nephews. Elvin was preceded in death by his parents, Lyman and Mildred Shook and infant sister, mother-in-law Dorothy Delong, father-in-law Henry L. Miller, brother and sister-in-law James and Phyllis Friesner and sister-in-law Patricia Miller. The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Arbors of Carroll and the special care and compassion of Fairhope Hospice and Palliative Care. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts to honor Elvin's life may be made to Fairhope Hospice and Palliative Care, 282 Sells Road, Lancaster, Ohio 43130. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic a private funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. in the Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home, 436 N. Broad St, Lancaster, Ohio 43130 with Pastor Jonathan Morgan officiating. A live broadcast of the service will be hosted on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. via the Halteman-Fett & Dyer website. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
